The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP), which takes place every two years, is the global forum for accelerating world-wide momentum on disaster risk reduction. As the primary gathering for the world’s disaster risk community, it brings together Governments, UN, international regional organizations and institutions, NGOs, scientific/academic institutions and the private sector.

The benchmarks set out in the Chair's Summary of the second session of the Global Platform-2009 will serve as basis for the agenda of the 2011 session.

Outcomes
Based on lessons emerging from the Mid-Term Review of the HFA, GP-2011 will begin discussing what the disaster risk reduction framework will look like post-2015: in terms of governance, resources, monitoring and compliance and how it will fit with the Millennium Development Goals and climate change framework.

During the event, several special session for Mayors were hosted.
