The fourth Biennial SASDiR Conference will explore practices to 'avoid disaster risk creation' as a compliment to a DRR approach. The aim of the conference is to harness its broad, interdisciplinary expertise on this topic by gathering academics, practitioners and any other stakeholder in disaster risk and disaster-related fields. SASDiR mainly focuses on the SADC region however values perspectives from all over the world. 

The conference sub-themes are as follows: 

  • Urban risk and development;
  • Climate-smart agriculture;
  • Eco-system based DRR;
  • Trans-boundary disaster risk management;
  • Socio-ecological resilience;
  • Climatology;
  • Natural resource management and DRR;
  • Hazard governance;
  • Intergovernmental relations;
  • Environmental management;
  • Community resilience;
  • Public health and education;
  • Risk creation as a trans-disciplinary issue;
  • Media and communication in DRR
