An op-ed from The Citizen calls on the Disaster Management Department in the Prime Minister’s Office to carry out or coordinate studies, disseminate information on operations, preparedness and prevention, formulate appropriate policies and raise public awareness on disasters. It reminds that many low-lying areas, even in Dar es Salaam, have been prone to floods in recent years and that nothing is done to build infrastructure such as drainage systems to avoid floods recurrence and endangering people whenever it rains heavily.
