Switzerland: Flood maps highlight areas at risk

The first maps covering the whole of Switzerland and detailing areas at risk of flooding have just been compiled and released by the Federal Environment Office and reinsurance firm Swiss Re.

Individual cantons are currently drawing up maps to indicate areas at risk of various hazards including including floods, avalanches, landslides and rock fall. Approximately half of the maps have been finalized, the remainder are due to be finalized by 2011.
