Nepal: Kathmandu unveils a plan to ward off natural disasters

The Nepalese government authority, the District Disaster Management Committee has drawn up a disaster management plan to prepare the city to future earthquakes, floods and landslides, reports Ekantipur.

According to Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Basanta Raj Gautam, who is also the chairperson of the disaster management committee, the city areas and the villages have been categorised into different levels of hazards according to the level of their vulnerability to natural hazards.

In addition, the Ministry of Home Affiars has planned 1000 disaster risk reduction projects for the next five years.
