Weather extremes push Sri Lanka to adopt crop insurance

The Government of Sri Lanka is to launch a $1 million (Rs 1000m) crop insurance scheme to help farmers cope with the increasing number of climate change induced extreme weather events, such as cyclones, droughts and floods, reports Alertnet. However, experts point out that further climate change adaptation measures are needed to aid the country’s poorest population, who are the worst hit by the the impacts of climate change.
