USA: Wildfires, naturally occurring forest fires and climate change

Source(s): Allvoices

A wildfire that started on Thursday is forcing thousands of people to evacuate their homes in Southern California. "The connection between climate change and the frequency of wildfires is undeniable", states the author of the article published in Allvoices. By 2050, lands burned by wildfires every year will at least double, according to the US Forest Service Scientist's projection, and some regions will see a fivefold increase in acres burned if climate change continues on the current trajectory.

Climate change induced floods, droughts and heat waves will spur bug infestations as well, as it has been already happening in Colorado.

"We're going to have to figure out some more effective and efficient ways for adapting rather than just pouring more and more resources and money at it," Forest Service Climate Change Advisor Dave Cleaves said. "We're going to have to have a lot more partnerships with states and communities to look at fires and forest health problems."
