An urbanizing India faces "natural" disaster risk

According to the New York Times, preventive measures will minimize damage from 'natural' disasters, stress World Bank officials in their report Natural hazards, unnatural disasters. Much depends on how effectively countries prepare for disasters, including installing early warning systems and builds strong infrastructure, officials say as the Indian government tried to increase preparations for natural disasters, since passing the Disaster Management Act of 2005. "Hazards are natural, but the disasters don’t have to be," said Apurva Sanghi, team leader of the World Bank report. "Those are manmade, and a lot can be done cost effectively to prevent damage."
