UN green climate fund, aiding poor, to pick HQ in 2012
The UN Green Fund board members held their first meeting in Geneva to hear the propositions of Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Poland, South Korea and Switzerland – the countries who compete to host the UN agency that will manage the USD 100 billion aid from 2020, reports Alertnet. The climate aid will help developing nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt climate related floods, droughts, heat waves and rising sea levels.
The long-term goal of the fund is to "transform the livelihoods of people responding to the impacts of climate change," said co-chair Zaheer Fakir.
