Time to think about climate adaptation
Australia is experiencing the effects of climate change in many ways: sea level rise, increasing extreme weather events, such as cyclones, floods, heat waves, hailstorms, heatwaves, just to name a few. Australian states should urgently respond to the changing weather patters by investing in early warning systems, tightening building design codes, adapting practices in industry and agriculture, and taking other measures, according to Ziggy Switkowski, writing for the Climate Spectator.
He adds, "There is a Darwinian contest at play here which business has always understood. Society must adapt at least as fast as the climate changes. Away from the international stage and climate talkfests, it seems that our states and communities may be addressing the practical steps which will make a real difference for the next two generations at least."
