NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center: La Niña is back
According to NOAA, La Niña is about to return in the tropical Pacific Ocean, and to strengthen during the winter. This climate phenomenon is one of the reasons for winter snowfall, spring flooding, drought and heavy rain around the world. Mike Halpert, deputy director of the Climate Prediction Center, said that: “This means drought is likely to continue in the drought-stricken states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. La Niña also often brings colder winters to the Pacific Northwest and the northern Plains, and warmer temperatures to the southern states.”
