Nepal: Early warning system doing wonders
"Casualties and property losses have gone down significantly after an effective implementation of the early warning system," stated Rajendra Sharma, senior divisional hydrologist and in-charge of Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology in an interview with Ekantipur. He added that their work is focused on information dissemination and warning but they have also initiated a hazard mapping project. The Pilot Project on Climate Resilience is expected to set up early warning systems along 200 rivers based on rainfall forecasting.
