Japan: New technology to predict sediment disasters 40 minutes in advance

Upload your content

Sediment disasters will soon become predictable 40 minutes in advance thanks to new technology developed by NEC Corp, reports the Japan News.

According to the article, the system measures water levels using sensors buried about 50 centimeters deep in the slopes of mountains at the peak, center and the foot. NEC assesses the data to determine the hazard level of mudslides, which is then distributed immediately to systems installed in local governments and railway companies among other entities.
