The Gambia: Families left homeless by floods

Heavy rains July through September and subsequent flooding have caused loss of life and livlihoods across The Gambia, reports the IPS. Recounting the story of one mother and her family, the report emphasizes the need to move away from relief to risk reduction. IPS spoke with Essa Kahn of the NDMA who highlighted The Gambia's participation in the Africa Regional Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction to improve governance and risk assessment, step up advocacy and investment, and develop local capacity.
