Climate risk enters the curriculum in Salvadoran schools
El Salvador’s schools and universities have begun teaching students how to deal with the risks of extreme weather and climate change in an effort to make communities more resilient to disasters, reports Nelson Rentería for AlertNet. "It seems very good to me, because we will learn something new. Not only will we be taught that two plus two is four, but we will be shown the impacts of rain on our lives," said Ignacio Rosa, a 12-year-old pupil in San Salvador.
Teaching materials incorporating environmental safety considerations was made mandatory for all public and private educational institutions by the government, which is also launching wider information campaigns and strengthening weather and climate monitoring systems.
