Canada would rather adapt to climate change than lead on cutting greenhouse gases
Having received another set of fossil awards on the side of the United Nations climate change talks in Doha, Canada "remains cool about a crisis that is already dramatically intruding on people’s lives," according to the Vancouver Sun. So, in response to a 2008 report from Ottawa’s Natural Resources predicting an increase in flooding due to heavy rainfall and storm surges, ice and wind storms, heat waves and drought, extreme sea levels, enhanced coastal erosion, wildfires and pest infestations, and calling for the magnitude of impacts to be reduced through adaptation, Ottawa has created a 'Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Division' within Natural Resources Canada. Its employees work with governmental and non-governmental players “to collaborate on adaptation priorities” and make Canada more “climate resistant”.
