Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest from potential senior food security specialist candidates interested in participating in Tetra Tech ARD’s submission for the upcoming USAID-funded global Food Security Early Warning Systems (FEWS NET) program.

This high profile, large, complex and longstanding U.S. government program will be based out of Tetra Tech ARD’s Washington, DC office and requires residence in the Washington, DC area.

Responsibilities

–Provide technical expertise for developing and executing innovative approaches to food security analysis and early warning, poverty mapping, vulnerability assessment, and related areas.
–Plan and implement activities to improve food security early warning systems and management through institutional development and technical support to government agencies.
–Provide day-to-day coordination, monitoring, and supervision of staff implementing activities related to the above-referenced technical areas.
–Assist with the transfer of food security early warning methodologies and capacities to local institutions within host countries.

Technical background (required qualifications)

–Advanced degree or equivalent training/experience in the food security field (geography, economics, international studies, health, agriculture, agricultural economics, etc).
–Geographic experience in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
–Minimum 10 years of experience in food security analysis, early warning, poverty mapping, natural disaster and/or famine risk assessment, and disaster relief.
–Experience with projects that are focused on food security, information sharing/dissemination, poverty mapping, natural disaster and/or famine risk assessment, early warning, and disaster relief.
–Proven experience successfully developing and executing innovative approaches for these technical areas.
–Strong communications and cross cultural skills.
–Foreign language proficiency in French, Spanish and/or Portuguese highly desired.
–U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement.
