Murray-Darling Basin Royal Commission report

The Murray-Darling Basin Royal Commission was established by His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia on 23 January 2018. The purpose of the Royal Commission and the report is to investigate the operations and effectiveness of the Murray-Darling river basin system. The report contains 111 findings and 44 recommendations.

Suggestions include the reallocating of more water from irrigation to the environment, and for the states to review their water resource plans to expressly recognise and authorise the taking and use of water by Indigenous people in exercise of native title rights. The report recommends an overhaul of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan and found the original plan ignored the potential risks of climate change.
