WWF position paper: Subsidary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-14)
Nairobi, May 10-21 2010:
This document calls on Parties at SBSTTA-14 to consider some recommendations in preparation for the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity, including: the establishment of multi-sectoral mechanism at the national level (forestry, fisheries, water supply, agriculture, disaster prevention, health, climate change) to promote a more constructive dialogue on sustainable use at national level; and the contribution of ecosystem restoration and management as a means to regulate water flows and quality fully taken into account in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction strategies, policies and plans, considering that ecosystems including forests, peatlands, wetlands, aquifers and floodplains play a key role in mitigating, adverting and reducing risks of climate change induced disasters such as floods and droughts.
