Australia: National heatwave warning framework 2022

The purpose of the National Heatwave Warning Framework (the Framework) is to provide the foundation for a consistent approach to heat health and heatwave warnings across Australian state and territories. The primary intent of the Framework is to reduce the health impact of heatwaves, noting that heatwaves also adversely impact sectors such as water, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and transport.

Improving knowledge of heat hazards can assist people and organisations to prepare for, and cope with, the effects of extreme heat and the impacts of a changing climate. The capacity of people and organisations to act is enhanced by nationally consistent and aligned guidance that clarifies methods, approaches, roles and responsibilities.
