India floods 2017
This issue of Southasiadisasters.net focuses on the 2017 floods in India, their impact on different areas of the country and the damage caused. It also examines India's underlying vulnerability to floods, which has been exacerbated in recent years by unplanned development, high population density, the settlement of people in floodplains, old infrastructure, weak river embankments and the increase in extreme weather events, including high rainfall in a short duration.
