Participatory school safety & resilience management resource kit (2025)
The handbook is designed to support schools in identifying, reducing, and managing the risks that affect their students and communities. It is grounded in the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF 2022–2030), a global commitment to ensure that all children have access to safe, equitable, continuous, and quality education in the face of all hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities. Designed for diverse national contexts, the kit integrates three key components: a practical handbook for school leaders and committees, planning templates to localize school safety plans, and participatory activities for learning and action.
With its inclusive, child-centred methodology, the PSSRM Kit supports schools and education systems to identify local risks, reduce vulnerabilities, prepare for emergencies, and build a culture of safety and resilience—across both development and humanitarian settings. The handbook provides practical, step-by-step guidance for school leaders, teachers, students, and community members to:
- Understand and assess local risks to safety and learning;
- Develop school-specific disaster and emergency plans;
- Build everyday habits for risk reduction and resilience;
- Engage students and the wider community in safety planning;
- Ensure educational continuity, even in times of crisis;
- Protect the rights and wellbeing of every learner.
