$14.45 billion has been spent on overhauling hurricane preparedness in New Orleans, since the 2005 devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The new New Orleans' Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System includes levees, floodwalls and new, storm-proofed pump stations, according to Discovery News. Experts expect that Isaac could become a Category 2 hurricane, a storm with winds up to 100 mph (160 kph). The National Hurricane Center also predicts a 6- to 12-foot (1.8- to 3.6-meter) storm surge.
