According to Om Astha Rai's opinion piece that appeared in the Republica, Nepal's recent landslide and floods found the country unprepared for the disasters. The author gives an overview of the history of disaster risk reduction in the country as well as the major disasters, and quotes Ramesh Shrestha,an early warning system officer at Mercy Corps Nepal, an NGO working in disaster management sector, who says: "Perhaps, our disaster preparedness is far from adequate." He also believes that there is no gap in disaster management policies and strategies but their implementation is far from satisfactory.
