Mexico City's head of government proposes World Disaster Fund at Davos
Attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Mexico City's head of government, Marcelo Ebrard suggested yesterday that the 10 billion dollars approved by the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) should be used to establish a Global Disaster Fund to support climate change mitigation and adaptation.
As spokesman for the World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland, Ebrard explained that resources are needed to ensure that cities have economic support to reduce risks and disasters.
He said that a strategy must be designed with the United Nations to optimize the capacity to respond to the threats of global warming.
The head of government explained that major capital cities of the world must have the support of the international stock market, because efforts to curb climate change and address its consequences occur locally.
