India: Bihar to sign MoU with ISRO for real-time assessment of natural calamities

PATNA: Bihar government will soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to get technical support for real-time assessment and monitoring of natural calamities like flood, drought-like situation or earthquake.

[Chief Minister Nitish Kumar] had convened [a] meeting to review his government’s preparedness for possible flood and drought situation in different parts state. He also took feedbacks on flood and drought-like situation in different districts from the concerned DMs and other field officers through video-conferencing and asked the officials to take all necessary steps to minimize the consequences of any of the two calamities. “Whether it be flood or drought, we should remain alert and prepared to face either of the two situations,” Nitish told officials.

[Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi] also asked the agriculture department officials to prepare a plan for alternative crops in case of drought. “Besides, constructing cattle troughs to provide safe drinking water to domestic animals, the district administration should also work to ensure availability of water in village ponds,” Nitish said.
