One of the issues to be discussed at the eighteenth Conference of Parties (COP18) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Doha, Quatar will be the topic of Loss and Damage. For countries, such as Kiribati for example, there is a limit to adapt to climate change, particularly to sea level rise. Thus, these countries are advocating an "international mechanism on loss and damage" to deal with the residual losses and damage after adaptation, writes Saleemul Huq, Director of the International Centre for Climate Change and Development, Independent University, Bangladesh on the pages of The Daily Star.
