COP17 in Durban: Older people and climate change

HelpAge International asserts that the role of older people to combat climate change needs to be considered at COP 17 as they can make positive contributions. HelpAge works with older people on disaster risk reduction programmes in which they help their communities to prepare themselves in the face of natural disasters. That is why, older people's experiences of disasters and their knowledge of coping mechanisms can be essential when developing local disaster risk reduction and adaptation plans.
