Background

As a followup activity of the South Asia Media Workshop on adaptation to climate change organised in May 2011, this workshop intends on leveraging the lessons learned and the demand for more topic oriented sessions for media persons. The overall objective of this workshop is to familiarise media professionals from ICIMOD regional member countries to different issues, challenges, options and opportunities with regard to promotion of Green Economy (GE) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in the region including raising awareness of the International Mountain Day celebrations in December 2011.

Workshop components

Tentative activities proposed are as follows:

• Day 1 - Lectures/presentation: presenters from ICIMOD, and partner organisations with lectures on various issues of Green Economy, CCA focusing underlying issues, challenges, options/opportunities and way forward with a mountain context. Two presentations by professional media persons – a science reporter-on CCA reporting and other one by economic reporter – on socio-economic issues reporting

• Day 2 - Excursion: One day excursion at the ICIMOD Godavari site and nearby villages to show media persons how mountain resources and intermediate technologies can enhance the CCA process and foster a Green Economy.

• Day 3 (half day) - Reflection and way forward: A half-day session to reflect on the observations during the field visit. Experts will help them to improve their understanding.
