Cities on volcanoes 6th meeting

CoV6-Tenerife 2010 is planned as an international forum on volcanic risk management. Scientific and technical sessions aim at exchanging and understanding experiences and knowledge in order to evaluate and improve prevention/mitigation actions, land-use planning, emergency management, and all required measurements to improve volcanic risk management in densely populated volcanic regions. This meeting will be also an ideal international forum to discuss about the plus side of living in an active volcanic environments.

Program

Tenerife 2010 will cover scientific and technical sessions within 4 major symposiums

Symposium 1: The science of volcanoes
- Session 1.1: Volcano general studies.
- Session 1.2: Understanding volcanic hazards.
- Session 1.3: Volcano observation and monitoring.
- Session 1.4: Volcanology from Space.
- Session 1.5: Electromagnetic and other geophysical methods for monitoring and predicting volcanic eruptions.
- Session 1.6: Geoengineering in volcanic environments.

Symposium 2: How to live with volcanoes: the risks
- Session 2.1: Volcanic hazard and risk assessment.
- Session 2.2: Volcanology, virtual community and cyberinfrastructure.
- Session 2.3: Education and outreach for reducing volcanic risk.
- Session 2.4: Emergency management.
- Session 2.5: Communication strategies for reducing volcanic risk.
- Session 2.6: Human health problems caused by volcanic activity.
- Session 2.7: Understanding and mitigating the impacts of volcanic ash fall

Symposium 3: How to live with volcanoes: the opportunities
- Session 3.1: Volcanic National Parks, Protected Areas, Biosphere Reserves, Geoparks and Landscape management.
- Session 3.2: Volcanoes and geothermal energy.
- Session 3.3: Volcanoes: a unique adventure and tourist attraction.
- Session 3.4: Volcanoes: a natural source for art creativity and cultural inspiration.
- Session 3.5: Other natural resources in volcanic environments (balneology, soils…).
- Session 3.6: Experiences of destruction and recovery: history, archaeology and legends.
- Session 3.7: The use of the Earth’s volcanic record in the search for extraterrestrial life.

Symposium 4: Recent eruptions since CoV5 and volcanic crisis management in special settings
- Session 4.1: Recent eruptions since CoV5-Shimabara 2007.
- Session 4.2: Volcanic crisis management in active volcanic islands.
- Session 4.3: Volcanic crisis management in megacities on and around active volcanoes.
