Background
Tetra Tech ARD is currently accepting expressions of interest from potential DPSC candidates interested in participating in Tetra Tech ARD’s submission for the upcoming USAID-funded global Food Security Early Warning Systems (FEWS NET) program. This high profile, large, complex and longstanding U.S. government program will be based out of Tetra Tech ARD’s Washington, DC office and requires residence in the Washington, DC area. U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement.
Position Description
- Lead FEWS NET’s Washington-based decision and planning support and reporting processes;
- Undertake user needs assessments to improve FEWS NET information products for planning and decision making;
- Provide technical direction and coordination for complex technology collaborations between diverse partners;
- Assure timely and high-quality delivery of the activity’s core information products into decision-making and planning processes;
- Develop new and innovative ways to disseminate food security information in a timely manner to key decision makers involved in food security and food aid response;
- Facilitate and quality control field reporting processes;
- Coordinate the consolidation of inputs from technical specialists into periodic and intermittent reports and other information products, mostly electronic in format;
- Ensure consistency among FEWS NET products and messaging;
- Work with technology specialists to propose, plan and implement technology solutions that improve food security early warning systems using data from a wide variety of sources;
- Coordinate the field testing, operationalization and staff training in proven methods, use of technologies to gather food security data and tools for data analysis and interpretation;
- Coordinate the transfer proven food security early warning capacity to local and regional institutions within host countries.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years work experience directly related and relevant to the position, including coordinating decision making technologies, communications and processes for FFP and/or early warning/food security international organizations;
- At least 2 years international experience in multiple FEWS NET countries;
- Masters degree in related subject, especially agriculture, agricultural economics, early warning, economics, emergency response, food security assessment, geography, planning, public health, and rural development;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Foreign language capacity in French, Spanish and/or other;
- U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement.
