Climate shocks and noncommunicable diseases among older people in India
The study uses estimates from the Indian Demographic and Health Surveys from 2019 to 2021 linked with georeferenced recent meteorological data. It finds that unexpected excess heat has significant impacts on the prevalence of hypertension, high blood glucose levels, and overweight or obese status. The findings underscore the importance of policies promoting climate resilience for older people in developing economies.
