The General Corps of Volunteer Paramedics of Peru, also known as the Cuerpo General de Paramedicos Voluntarios del Perú (CGPVP), is dedicated to strengthening and training first response teams for disasters.

Cuerpo General de Paramedicos Voluntarios del Perú (CGPVP), or the General Corps of Volunteer Paramedics of Peru, is a non-profit association that is dedicated to the training and qualification of volunteer personnel dedicated to emergency care, First Aid, Pre-Hospital Rescue Care and ambulance services at the national level.
Our vision is to be an organization that plays an advisory role in both national and international development in relation to adapting to the scenarios of the environment based on preventive, technological, and innovative measures with a focus on utilizing human capital to ensure safety and security of the community. Our values are ethics, respect, honesty, security, quality of services and responsibility. We are leading a team with expertise in the area of security and environment with presence not only in Perú but also in other Latin American countries.
CGPVP offers training and other services related to safety occupational hygiene, security and fire protection, hazardous materials and waste, emergency management and environmental studies and assessments. These are carried out by national and international instructors, strictly complying with national regulations. CGPVP aims to further strengthen and train first responders for disasters with a focus on earthquakes, tsunamis and other nuclear, biological and chemical hazards.
Did the Sendai Framework change or contribute to changes in your activities/organization? If so, how?
CGPVP is framing its activities within relevant policies for Disaster Risk Management and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The Sendai Framework particularly calls for enhancing preparedness for effective response and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction. CGPVP's trainings will be able to contribute to this aspect of the Sendai Framework, among others, as it strengthens and trains communities to respond to disasters.

What was your position before making this Voluntary Commitment / prior to the Sendai Framework?
Peru, being within the Pacific Ring of Fire, has as its main threat that at any time a phenomenon of great magnitude hits our country, in terms of human lives, according to the scenario proposed by the National Institute of Civil Defense - INDECI, The Geophysical Institute of Peru - IGP and the National University of Engineering - UNI, If there is a telluric movement of 8.8 degrees it could mean the loss of 110 thousand lives, 2 million injured, 353 thousand homes destroyed, 74 homes affected or destroyed by possible tsunamis. That at the level of essential public services Lima and Callao would lack drinking water for at least 72 hours since 50% of the Atarjea Plant would be destroyed; that at least 50% of fire stations would be destroyed or disabled, road infrastructure and bridges would be affected, as well as health services

Deliverables are the end-products of the initiative/commitment, which can include issuance of publications or knowledge products, outcomes of workshops, training programs, videos, links, photographs, etc.
Support provided in the "Oil Spill in the Ventanilla Sea" in coordination with the Municipality of Ventanilla and the organization @Ayni Khuska Peru. The General Corps of Volunteer Paramedics of Peru, concerned about one of the most important ecological disasters of recent years that has reached an important dimension, were present in order to give medical attention to Civilian, Military, Volunteer personnel among other organizations. Victims of sunstroke and dehydration were attended by our team #EMT, Paramedics of the Peru among other units of First Response.
Thanks to the invitation of the Army Education and Doctrine Command - COEDE, the First Response unit of the General Corps of Volunteer Paramedics of Peru, successfully completed the second Rescue Course in Collapsed Structures Light level. This course took place at the Army Command School - Chorrillos where the theoretical and practical instruction was carried out.
On on Tuesday, May 31, at 10.00 a.m., the General Corps of Volunteer Paramedics of Peru participated in the National Multihazard Drill convened by the National Institute of Civil Defense Peru (Indeci). This alert activity was carried out with the aim of preparing citizens for an earthquake of great magnitude in the country.
Continuing with the formation of our First Response units, the Aeromedical Evacuation exercise was carried out with the operational units of the Army of Peru - Army Education and Doctrine Command - COEDE, this exercise obeys the preparation of the Rapid Emergency and Disaster Intervention Brigades for the response to a scenario.
Supporting local and national disaster preparedness through participating in or organizing local and national events related to disaster risk management such as the National Multi-Hazard Simulation Drill in May 2022 and the International Forum Inclusive Disaster Preparedness in July 2022. Through participation or organization of such events, fruitful exchanges can be done where CGPVP can share their experiences while also learning from others. Lessons learned and best practices can then be implemented in CGPVP's disaster response courses and activities.
The General Corps of Volunteer Paramedics of Peru held an exhibition of capabilities, as a first response unit in emergencies, exhibitions and live demonstrations for the attendees at the "Disaster Risk Management Fair" with the aim of sensitizing the population so that it is organized and prepared for a 🚨#Sismo of great magnitude. We were supported by one of our focal points, the Municipality of Santiago de Surco.

We have made progress through the organizations of different Rescue courses, the formation of Emergency Brigades, among other field practice activities.
