According to the recently released report by the National Research Council, weather satellite capacity is declining just when tracking tornadoes, predicting hurricanes and investigating climate change should be so important. This is due to tight budgets, as per The Northwestern.

Dennis Hartmann, professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Washington, Seattle, and chair of the committee, warned that the loss of capacity will have "profound consequences on science and society, from weather forecasting to responding to natural hazards."
