Journey to resilience: disaster risk reduction projects in Turkana, Kitale, Eldoret and Garissa

Source(s):  United Nations Development Programme - Kenya (UNDP Kenya)

This photo book presents UNDP's work with the Government and other stakeholders in Kenya to find and facilitate implementation of sustainable solutions to minimize disaster impacts in the country. Featuring several projects, it illustrates some of the areas in which UNDP support the Government and People of Kenya to: (i) support the country in developing a legal, policy and institutional framework that guides the country in Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery; (ii) support mainstreaming of disaster risk reduction into long term development plans at both national and county level; and (iii) support the implementation of projects that stabilize livelihoods, support recovery and build resilience of communities impacted by disasters.

The cases presented include: building resilience and early recovery through enterprise and Turkana women benefit from drought intervention as part of the Kenya drought recovery project, Lokichoggio; integrating farming into pastoral lives for improved livelihoods and enterprising youth for economic empowerment through the Kenya drought recovery project, Garissa; empowering the girl child through education within the restoration and stabilization of livelihoods project, Lokichoggio; and the post election violence livelihoods recovery project, Kitale.
