Sri Lanka country report on natural disaster reduction, submitted to the IDNDR-ESCAP Regional Meeting for Asia, 23-26 February 1999, Bangkok, Thailand
This report presents country’s disaster risks and natural hazards, such as cyclone, flood, earthquake, drought and landslide, and describes governmental and institutional structures responsible for disaster management in Sri Lanka.
The report discusses disaster mitigation activities and challenges during the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) and outlines the National Disaster Reduction and Management Policy. It is a major reporting document on country’s progress and achievements in disaster reduction at the end of IDNDR.
