Research and action agenda on climate change and mental health for small farmers and fisher peoples
This report presents the research and action agenda for climate change and mental health for small farmers and fisher peoples. Core to this research was identifying research themes – such as questions on the intersection of mental health and regenerative farming and the mental health impacts of crop loss due to flooding – and emerging intervention areas, such as farmer hotlines and community gardens.
The authors found that the centring of the stories and lived realities of small farmers and fisher peoples elicited important insights into the unprecedented toll of climate change on mental health for these groups. It was evident that people from these groups want to be deeply engaged with and involved in research and action; those in positions of power and decision making have an opportunity to centre lived experiences and wisdom in all efforts to improve the mental health of small farmers and fisher peoples.
