Lebanon's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan
This National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) 2025 presents Lebanon’s national approach to the conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of biodiversity benefits. It recognizes mounting pressures from unsustainable land use practices, pollution, climate change, economic hardship and increasing anthropogenic impacts, and promotes integrated action across sectors. The strategy advances ecosystem-based approaches and identifies biodiversity as a cross-cutting pillar of sustainable development and national resilience.
In relation to disaster risk reduction, the strategy focuses on strengthening resilience through ecosystem-based approaches and the protection and sustainable management of natural resources. It sets out national action to address pressures on ecosystems while supporting biodiversity conservation and climate action. The document was prepared by Lebanon’s Ministry of Environment under the Global Biodiversity Framework Early Action Support, with funding from the Global Environment Facility and United Nations Development Program.
