Toolkit for applying a gender-transformative approach to women-led climate resilience
This toolkit provides practical guidance for applying a gender-transformative approach to disaster risk reduction and climate resilience, with a focus on strengthening women’s leadership and agency. It addresses the need to move beyond gender-sensitive programming by offering structured methods to tackle root causes of inequality that increase vulnerability to climate-related hazards.
The toolkit presents a three-phase approach, collaborative design, co-implementation and monitoring, evaluation and learning, structured around the socio-ecological model to drive change at individual, household, community and institutional levels. Key lessons highlight the importance of participatory design, women’s leadership, and engagement of men and boys to transform harmful gender norms.
