Sint Maarten national climate change adaptation report
This National Climate Change Adaptation (NCCA) Report serves as the bridge between recognizing those vulnerabilities and enforcing resilience. Climate change is no longer a distant threat for Sint Maarten. it is already shaping the island’s economic stability and public safety. Rising sea levels, intensifying heat, and more destructive storms are putting critical infrastructure and livelihoods at risk. What once were reliable weather patterns are now obsolete, replaced by accelerating environmental shifts that demand immediate action. Without adaptation, the country faces increasing damage to its tourism-driven economy, growing public health risks, and mounting pressure on essential systems.
This report calls for a shift from reactive disaster recovery to proactive, long-term resilience planning. Rather than relying on temporary, post-disaster funding, it emphasizes the need for enforced regulations, stronger institutional capacity, and permanent investment in climate adaptation. The tools and policies already exist—the challenge now lies in implementing them effectively. By acting decisively, Sint Maarten can protect its communities, safeguard its economy, and build a more resilient future.
