Advancing and integrating climate and health policy in the United States: Insights from national policy stakeholders
This study investigates U.S. federal policy stakeholders' views on goals to integrate climate policy with health policy, and strategies for achieving them. Most stakeholders perceived that federal climate policy and health policy were mostly separate, but were becoming more integrated. They believed further integration could increase support for climate policy and maximize its health benefits.
The authors found that most participants were in favor of integration, and many observed signs of progress, including growing awareness; emerging funding, data, and technologies; and new federal programs within and across agencies. However, they identified many challenges, such as political polarization, lack of resources, and silos between federal agencies and between professional communities.
