The costs and impacts of the winter 2013 to 2014 floods
This report presents the results of a project aimed to quantify the damages caused by flooding in England and Wales in 2013-2014, and to separate these out into categories of damages. During December 2013 and March 2014, the UK experienced a sustained period of flooding caused by a continual and highly unusual pattern of winter storms. These events resulted in coastal damage and prolonged flooding. According to the report, the total economic damages were estimated to be between £1,000 million and £1,500 million, with a best estimate of £1,300 million. Residential properties suffered the greatest proportion of flood damages, with 25% of total damages occurring to this sector.
