This paper focuses on how drought can affect the productivity and profitability of farms. It is an ongoing challenge for businesses, communities and regions. The stress of drought can affect health and well being. Due to climate change, drought is likely to be longer and more severe in some regions. It may also be spread over broader areas.

The Australian government wants to help farmers and rural communities prepare for and manage through drought. So they can pursue a prosperous and sustainable future, through 

  1. Immediate action for those in drought.
  2. Support for the wider communities affected by drought
  3. Long-term resilience and preparedness

Everyone has a role in dealing with drought. This includes government, industry, and individual farmers and businesses.
