Australia: Prospering in a changing climate - A climate change adaptation framework for South Australia
This Climate Change Adaptation Framework sets the foundation for South Australians to develop well-informed and timely actions to be better prepared for the impacts of climate change. It is intended to guide action by government agencies, local government, non-government organisations, business and the community. It outlines: (i) adaptation in South Australia; (ii) guiding principles and objectives; (iii) a regional approach to adaptation; (iv) sectoral impacts; (v) implementation.
The Framework affirms adaptation is not an isolated stand-alone agenda. It will need to be incorporated into all policy and planning processes and embedded into public and private risk management frameworks. Adaptation will play a complementary and equally important role to mitigation in South Australia's efforts to respond effectively to climate change. It further asserts that the majority of effort will need to occur at an individual, regional and local level.
