The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement has been developing a disaster risk assessment map to mitigate the impact of natural disaster and improve responsiveness to such events. With limited data availability, assessments rely on the findings of research conducted by international organisations.
India has launched a flood and earthquake early warning systems in Myanmar aimed at helping the country mitigate the effects of natural disasters that affect millions of people every year. The systems have been tested and are now fully integrated with existing Myanmar disaster mitigation systems.
Research into earthquakes is being carried out jointly by the Myanmar Earthquake Committee and the China Academy of Sciences. 65 earthquake prediction equipment will be deployed underground starting in 2018. The earthquake data will be received and recorded, and then hazard maps can be drawn from the collected data.
