The department, which was established in 1961, has been actively engaged in teaching and training, research, development and consultancy work in four major fields of structural dynamics, soil dynamics, seismology and seismotectonics and instrumentation. Making significant contributions both at national as well as international level in the area of earthquake engineering and earthquake disaster mitigation, the department is currently engaged in several important studies such as seismic microzonation of mega cities, seismic hazard and risk, systemi dentification of structures, earthquake response analysis, seismic evaluation and vulnerability assessment; and seismic retrofitting of structures, structure response control, seismic base isolation of buildings, inelastic seismic design and innovative structural.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
