Mission
Artha Global is a globally networked policy organisation that partners with governments, multilateral agencies, philanthropies, and the private sector to address systemic challenges to shared prosperity and opportunity. The organisation focuses on going beyond surface-level symptoms to tackle underlying root causes.
Its guiding principle is prosperity—artha in Sanskrit—understood not only as material wealth, but also as the broader legal, societal, environmental, and institutional conditions that enable individuals and communities to thrive. This vision is informed by the kind of sustained economic growth that has lifted millions out of poverty across regions such as Asia and Central and Eastern Europe.
Artha Global concentrates on the major transitions underway in developing countries, including urbanisation, digitalisation, and economic formalisation, as well as job creation and efforts to reduce long-term emissions. While these shifts present significant opportunities, they also bring complex policy challenges and socio-economic disruptions. In response, the organisation develops interdisciplinary solutions grounded in local contexts and shaped by a nuanced understanding of political and economic dynamics.
Artha Global contributes to DRR through capacity building and policy support for cities, including programmes that equip urban leaders with planning tools to improve resilience and quality of life. Its projects also examine how environmental risks like air pollution affect populations and economic systems, highlighting exposure and vulnerability across different demographic groups.
In addition, the organisation’s emphasis on strengthening data systems, digital infrastructure, and evidence-based policymaking supports core DRR functions such as risk assessment, monitoring, and early action. Its work on urban planning, technology, and governance helps governments better understand and manage complex, interconnected risks—from climate extremes to infrastructure stress—while designing more resilient and inclusive systems. Overall, Artha Global’s contribution to DRR lies in integrating data, policy, and local context to address the underlying drivers of risk and vulnerability rather than focusing solely on disaster response.
Voluntary Commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
