KOCHI: Citing the probability of an intense monsoon this year, the Kerala high court has asked Kochi Corporation to inform about the steps taken to maintain the canals and the drainage system so as to prevent flooding of the city during the rainy season.

Justice Devan Ramachandran issued the order as part of the series of directives being issued by the court towards flood mitigation.

In the order issued on Tuesday, the court said, "The series of orders that this Court had issued in the last years with respect to the cleaning of the 'Perandoor Canal' and steps for prevention of flooding in the city of Kochi during monsoons, would apply for this year also; particularly because there are indicative reports - though not conclusive - that we will have to brace ourselves for a very intense monsoon this year."
