Launch of School Safety App by GeoHazards Society with support from Thales Foundation

The GeoHazards Society (GHS) with support from Thales Foundation announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind School Safety Mobile Application that will allow school administrators to develop a School Disaster Management Plan (SDMP). The Android-based app was launched by Shri. Kamal Kishore, Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Prof. Santosh Kumar, Executive Director, National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Mr Christophe Humphry, Chief Operating Officer, Thales in India, and Mr Hari Kumar, GeoHazards Society,  at NIDM in New Delhi.

The app has been field tested in schools in Delhi, Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh, Patna in Bihar and Aizwal in Mizoram, India and in two districts of  Bhutan before the formal launch. 

The app has various modules including detailed school profile, hazard profile of the school, School hazards identification, formation of disaster management teams, development of evacuation plans, Guidance for conducting drills, preparing drill reports etc. The users will have guidance to use each module and to enter the data from the school. Once the data has been entered, the user can generate and share the disaster preparedness plan as a PDF file via emailand social media. 

This mobile application has been developed as part of the project undertaken by GHS with the support from the Thales Foundation.
