US: Under water - Risk of New York City coastal flooding has surged by factor of 20, says study

With increasing sea level rise and mounting storm surges, there is a 20 times larger risk that flood waters would over-top Manhattan's seawalls and inundate parts of the city, according to a new study, reports the Washington Post.

“What we are finding is that the 10-year storm tide of your great-, great-grandparents is not the same as the 10-year storm tide of today,” said Stefan Talke, the lead author of the study accepted for publication in Geophysical Research Letters.
